Description

In the context of serious illness and end-of-life care, patients and families often face emotionally complex and value-laden medical decisions. Motivational Interviewing (MI) offers a practical, evidence-based approach for helping people resolve ambivalence and clarify their values in a way that guides them toward positive change and growth.

This interactive session will introduce the core principles and techniques of MI and provide opportunities for skill development. This session will also explore how MI can be applied in hospice, palliative care, and hospital settings to support patients and caregivers through difficult decisions. With a focus on compassionate presence, reflective listening, and strategic questioning, attendees will learn how MI can enhance their communication toolkit, resolve ambivalence, and strengthen trust in the therapeutic relationship.
